The Brief
Existing historic outbuilding, set in Conservation Area, converted into a modern workspace.
The Solution
Ensure a weather-protected shell, with an improved energy efficiency with new red clay tiles to match existing, new timber frame wall with timber cladding and fully insulated envelope to inside. A large double glazed timber frame window, a conservation rooflight and a stable door will allow more natural light inside.
Sustainability. All used materials natural to maintain breathability of existing fabric whilst upgrading the thermal efficiency. Salvaged clay tiles for re-roofing to reduce CO2 emissions. Choice of limecrete on foam glass for new ground bearing slab, and a combination of woodfibre boards, sheepswool and cork for insulation.
