RETROFIT
Blue Quarry | Cotswolds
The Brief
Upgrade an existing bungalow to a sustainable house set in the Cotswolds.
The Solution
The proposed dwelling is roughly the same footprint as the current bungalow, with a small extension at the back and taller due to steeper pitch typical of the Cotswolds houses to better integrate in its context.
The proposed volume is intended be read as a series of organic additions to a smaller property, that will appear lighter than the monolithic aspect of the existing bungalow.
The external walls will be finished in charred timber cladding, Cotswolds stone, grey zinc and just locally, render. The pitched roof will be dark grey zinc, treated typically for the Cotswolds, with no barge boards or fascias.
Retrofit preferred to reduce the CO2 impact. Fabric upgrade, heating by Air-Source Heat Pumps and further energy generated by the PV cells on the southern elevation.
